The first home on Helsingholm was built in1777 by Mats Mattson, originally from Nötö (another island nearby). Three generations Mattson were born, lived and died on Helsingholm. In 1864 the Rosenberg family became owners of the island through marriage. The Rosenberg family lived on the island until Anders Andersson became owner. The siblings, Selim and Nanny, were the last of the Rosenberg family to live on the island.
The main source of income has for almost 250 years been a combination of fishing and agriculture. The farm animals have been sheeps, cows and almost always a horse. The different animals have made the vegetation varying with beautiful flowering meadows.
The island is still inhabited year around, even in the winter months, by the fishermen Anders Andersson and Alf Andersson. Together with Alf lives also his wife Sara and their son Ian.
